Thurles Golf Club is excited to announce the grand opening of its newly renovated bar and restaurant, marking the first major refurbishment in 42 years. Situated in the historic Turtulla House, the revamped venue aims to provide a welcoming and relaxing atmosphere not just for members but for the broader Thurles community.
Preserving History with a Modern Touch
Led by the creative vision of club member Ann Slattery, the renovation successfully blends the old-world charm of Turtulla House with modern comforts. The redesign features updated colour schemes, cosy seating areas, and the club’s signature green and gold, which reflect the rich heritage of Thurles Golf Club.
“We wanted to honour the historical significance of this beautiful house while making it a more inviting space for everyone,” said Arthur Griffin, Club President. “This renovation brings a fresh new look while preserving its timeless character.”
The bar has been renamed the Daniel O’Connell Bar, commemorating the historic stay of “the Liberator” at Turtulla House in 1845. Visitors can explore the venue’s history, with artefacts and photographs documenting its deep connection to the region.

A Community-Focused Club
Thurles Golf Club welcomes not only golfers but all members of the community to enjoy its new facilities. The club invites families, groups, and individuals to experience the warm, inviting atmosphere while enjoying a meal or coffee in the bar and restaurant.
“We want people from the community to know that our doors are open,” Griffin explained. “The club is more than just a place for golf. It’s a family-friendly space where everyone is welcome.”
